Leveraging ePortfolios to support immersive learning

ePortfolios-go-to-the-park_Use-Case-mockup

Use case exclusively written by Dr. Chelsea Redger-Marquardt and Dr. Kimberly Enger & Aaron Valentinve from Wichitita State University, US. The Dorothy and Bill Cohen Honour College

Discover how PebblePad was deployed by Wichita State University’s Cohen Honors College to support its service-learning partnership with the US National Park Service.

In this case study featured at PebbleBash 2024, the college’s Dr Chelsea Redger-Marquardt, Dr Kimberly Engber and Aaron Valentine reveal how the park trip-based programme includes a PebblePad ePortfolio workbook. This is organised into pre/on/post-trip sections to scaffold student learning and offers a roadmap to success. The approach helps to:

  • Give co-instructor teams the platform they need to bring in a diverse group of students and create a comprehensive curriculum for the annual programme.
  • Provide learners with an integrated textbook, assignment framework and reflective tool for capturing photo, video, narrative, sketches and mapping.
  • Create a one-stop home for content, integrative thinking and reflection activities that supports student’s learning regardless of the time or location.
  • Introduce a rich variety of engagement that supports diverse students, enhances group dynamics and demonstrates the course’s entire arc of learning.

Ultimately, PebblePad’s inclusion in the programme has led to the creation a set of content-rich, student-centred academic resources that can greatly impact student learning, lessen faculty administrative tasks and enhance collaborative teaching.
