The Ambition
Swansea University wanted to give 21,000+ students a single, unified digital experience — one that brought timetables, support services, campus tools and communications together in one place, accessible whether on campus, on placement or on the move. The goal wasn’t just convenience; it was stronger engagement, better retention and a digital presence that could genuinely keep pace with student expectations.
The Challenge
Students were navigating a fragmented digital landscape — bouncing between a basic login page, a VLE, library systems and an intranet with no central hub to tie it together. There was no mobile app, limited analytics on how students were actually using digital tools, and real gaps in the university’s ability to communicate with learners at the moments that mattered most.

The Solution
Swansea partnered with myday to build MySwansea — a branded, mobile-first student portal launched in 2022. Starting with a centralised web and app experience, the university expanded the platform over time: an arrival portal for onboarding and orientation followed in 2023, then a staff communications hub in early 2024. The result is a platform with 7,500+ average daily users, an 83% portal engagement rate and a push notification open rate of 50% — far outperforming email and social across the board.
“Students used to bounce between disconnected systems. Now, everything is in one place. The myday portal meets their needs and gives us powerful tools to engage and support them.”
