Discover how PebblePad supported the adaptation and integration of the Student-Led Individually Created Course (SLICC) Reflective framework into a public health capstone course at the University of Waterloo.
In this use case featured at PebbleBash 2024, Waterloo’s Jennifer Yessis, Katherine Lithgow and Nada El-Abbar reveal how PebblePad’s workbooks played a crucial role in the successful implementation of the framework by helping to:
- Support an assessment objective where students must demonstrate integrating lessons learned when addressing a public health problem as part of a group.
- Give learners a platform to showcase their work within a group eportfolio, complete individual reflections, and provide and review peer feedback.
- Create feedback templates that can be used at each project milestone to support the peer and instructor review and feedback process.
- Address scalability issues related to expanding the integration of the SLICC framework as the capstone course’s intake grew in volume.
Importantly, the university compared the reflections of students who completed the course using the adapted SLICC model with those who had not, and found the former experienced deeper levels of reflection, greater recognition of transferable skills, and more.
