During MiniBash 25 at the end of last year, we were thrilled to introduce Pebbles the Penguin, our new company mascot. Pebbles isn’t just a cute face for events though – Pebbles also represents our values, our global community and the future of learning, too. Here’s how:
Why Pebbles the Penguin?
Penguins are social, collaborative and resilient – qualities we value at PebblePad. But there’s more to the story*. Gentoo and Adelie penguins give the smoothest pebbles they can find to a potential partner, and those pebbles form the raised platform of their nest. This nest keeps eggs and chicks safe and dry when snow and ice melt.
Pebbles aren’t just tokens of bonding – they’re a foundation for life.
The learning connection
Just as pebbles create a strong base for a penguin’s nest, PebblePad provides a secure foundation for learning. It’s where students can plan, prepare and capture their experiences throughout their programme, creating a rich record of growth and achievement. These learning artefacts aren’t just memories either – they form the evidence base for a new era of assessment, where surfacing the process of learning and progress assures the quality of a degree.
PebblePad helps students build a nest for their learning – a safe, structured space that supports success and preserves what matters most.
Brought to life locally
Pebbles isn’t only a mascot – it’s a true PebblePad original. Each one has been handmade and commissioned by PebblePad, crafted locally in the West Midlands by a talented colleague. These aren’t mass-produced toys; they’re custom amigurumi mascots you won’t find anywhere else.
Just like a pebble, every Pebbles is unique, reflecting the care and creativity that define our values.
Join the journey
Since Pebbles was cooed over at MiniBash 25 – and select few were lucky enough to take one home with them – we can’t wait for the rest of you to meet the plucky penguin! After all, Pebbles loves an adventure and we want you to become part of it once you’ve picked up your very own Pebbles – take them on your travels, snap a photo and share it on social media with the hashtag #PebblesOnTour
Let’s show the world how far Pebbles – and PebblePad – can go.
P.S. Pebbles has already made it to Mauritius thanks to Dr Rebecca Pratchett, Associate Professor at Swansea University!

*The name ‘Pebbles’ itself was hatched at MiniBash 25 APAC, inspired by a duckling one community member was nurturing and introduced live on air. During the session, the community came together to name the duckling, settling on ‘Pebbles’. Whether it’s a duck or penguin, it’s all about care and connection – just like our brilliant PebblePad community.
