Established in 2015, the Education Workforce Council (EWC) is the independent, professional regulator for the education workforce in Wales. It regulates over 90,000 education practitioners, working in the public interest to maintain professionalism and enhance standards.
The ambition
One of EWC’s principle aims is to contribute to improving the standards of teaching and the quality of learning in Wales and monitoring the induction of Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs). Its ambition was to not only support NQTs through their induction period and process, but to instil an attitude of lifelong learning and continual professional development. To help achieve this, the EWC wanted to create a digital process that supported NQT development during the first year of teaching.

The solution
The EWC developed a Professional Learning Passport (PLP), a fully bilingual personal learning platform powered by PebblePad, which is used throughout the NQT’s first year. This allows the teachers to better identify their own strengths and to plan additional learning in any areas requiring further development, while enabling them to showcase their learning/development journey.
